  • Marine Radio Options

    Some recreational licences and coastal certificates of competency require a marine radio operator certificate to legally operate VHF and MF/HF marine radios.

    Depending on the certificate of competency you apply for, you may need a:

    • Short Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (SROCP) or;

    • Long Range Operator Certificate of Proficiency (LROCP)

    Once booked you will receive a link to the University of Tasmania portal and an online application form. We will send you resources to assist in your training, including movies, online reading material, and revision questions.

    Once we choose a date for the exam you will receive an application form to fill out. We require you to attach a passport photo of yourself and return to the email address on the form.

    The exam will happen online with your assessor observing and testing you over ZOOM.

    Certificate of competency and required radio operator certificate:

    Coxswain Grade 1 NC: SROCP

    Sailing Master Coastal NC: SROCP

    Sailing Master Offshore NC: LROCP

    Master <24 m NC: LROCP

    Master <45 m NC: LROCP

    Master <100 m NC: LROCP
